Richard Kelly ist schon ein Phänomen. Nachdem sich gleich sein erster Spielfilm Donnie Darko als absoluter Geniestreich und Kultfilm entpuppte, schien Kelly in eine kreative Krise zu verfallen, weder das schwache Drehbuch zu Domino noch das wirre und seltsam besetzte Projekt Southland Tales konnten Kritiker und Fans überzeugen. Vielleicht hat Kelly gerade aus dem Southland Tales Fiasko gelernt und sucht sein Glück nun ganz im Mainstream. Danach sieht es zumindest im Trailer zu seinem neuen Film, The Box aus.
Norma and Arthur Lewis, a suburban couple with a young child, receive a simple wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences. A mysterious stranger, delivers the message that the box promises to bestow upon its owner $1 million with the press of a button. But, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world; someone they don’t know. With just 24 hours to have the box in their possession, Norma and Arthur find themselves in the cross-hairs of a startling moral dilemma and must face the true nature of their humanity.
Das sieht ja jetzt nicht alles unbedingt schlecht aus, aber halt auch nicht besonders originell oder aufregend. Und ist das im Trailer wirklich Cameron Diaz oder nicht eher ihre Mutter?
